Surfing has become a hugely popular passtime along the Wild Atlantic Way, with County Clare being one of the top destinations for beginners and experienced surfers alike. Long sandy beaches such as Lahinch and Fanore offer fantastic possibilities for learning, with surf schools (beginner through to advanced), wet suit and board hire available.
Advanced surfers will not be admiring the magnitude of the Cliffs of Moher nor will they be hearing the cry of the thousands of nesting seabirds as they speed towards the rock face having caught Aileens (the surfers, not the birds!!). Not for the feint hearted Aileens is regarded as one of the world’s biggest and best waves.
