From your accommodation in Aughris House, you can explore Counties Sligo and Leitrim at your leisure. After a hearty breakfast, take day trips into the wilds of Leitrim and ramble along it's unspoilt trails or simply ramble across the road onto the beach and walk by the Atlantic watching the surfers - maybe they will inspire you to have a go yourself. Have a ramble around Aughris Head and return to sit outside the Beach Bar for lunch or dinner looking out over Sligo Bay towards Knocknarea and Benbulben. Whatever you feel like doing - Karen and the friendly staff at Aughris House and the Beach Bar are on hand to give you tips and advice for planning your stay here.

Aughris

Much more than surf and turf.
Aughris is a little gem of a headland sitting right on the edge of the North Atlantic. A remote spot and yet you will find everything you need on site. A cosy thatched pub with a fantastic restaurant, a surf school, several lovely beaches and coastal walks. A 4km looped walk around the head brings you past an iron-age fort, a holy well, and a deserted village winding back to the starting point at Aughris Beach. All the while taking in that wonderful Atlantic fresh air. Remote, yes, but Aughris is really only a stones throw from the main N59 road and is within easy reach of Sligo town and many attractions that Sligo and Leitrim have to offer.

The Yeats Country

Surf, Turf, Myths and Ancient History
Sligeach – a place abounding in shells The Wild Atlantic has undoubtedly deposited many shells on the coastline of this beautiful county and you will have plenty of opportunity to see for yourself if you take in some of the lovely coastal walks or surf the waves off the shore. Climb Benbulben in the Dartry Mountains – haunt of the legendary warrior band Na Fianna – and experience the fabulous views from the table top mountain. Hike up to the cairn atop Knocknarea where legend has it, Queen Maeve is buried or to the passage tombs at Carrowkeel. Take the ferry from Sligo town to Parkes Castle on Lough Gill or simply drive around the lake and find out where William Butler Yeats got the inspiration for his writings – Sligo is the Yeats Country after all.

Lovely Leitrim

Venture into the wilds of this unspoilt county
With only 4.7Km of coastline, Leitrim entices you to go off the beaten Wild Atlantic Way track and head inland to explore its wild and beautiful landscape. The county is peppered with walking and hiking trails for all levels of fitness, quiet country lanes for cycling, rivers for kayaking and lakes brimming with fish for angling. This county has the smallest population in the country and is a paradise for those wishing to get away from it all and experience the great outdoors.
