As mentioned, Westport is the heart of Mayo’s Wild Atlantic Way. Achill Island is 50 mins approx. from Westport on the N59/R319 (51.2km) and here your senses will be given free reign to appreciate what nature has achieved by unashamedly revealing the finest scenic show on earth and flaunting her natural beauty to visitors lucky enough to have come to this paradise. Perhaps you will prefer the scenery of the wilderness of Ballycroy`s national park (45 minutes) to hike the hidden gems of the Nephin Mountains or maybe just drive 12 minutes to climb Croagh Patrick and take outrageous photographs of Clew Bay and the surrounding countryside. The evening belongs to Westport itself with all kinds of restaurants and pubs to sate the appetite and allow you to wallow in atmosphere. Pubs like Matt Molloys and The Porter House and of course, your own McCarthys for traditional music and song. Or perhaps the Towers, a seaside setting, with panaramic views and a fully enclosed childrens play area. These are but a few of the attractions of the Westport nightlife.
