Caher Valley Looped Walk

The Caher Valley Looped walk is a 13 Km loop which takes you down country lanes and up into the Burren landscape on green roads. Parking at Fanore Beach, the trail is waymarked with a red arrow on a white background, following the coast road to the north at first and quickly turning right into the Caher Valley, a quiet country road which gently climbs away from the coast alongside the Caher river. After a while there is a right turn off the road onto a green road where you will pass the ruined Formoyle Chapel before quite a steep climb up onto the plateau, following the green road all the way down to a hairpin right turn on to the small country road that will bring you back down to the car park.

This walk offers wonderful views of the Burren landscape and on the descent, the west Clare coastline towards the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands stretched out across the mouth of Galway Bay and the Connemara Mountains in the distance on the other side of the bay.

Total Climb 300m       Distance 13Km      Time  31/2 to 4 hours   Grading Moderate     Recommended hiking boots, snack, water, wet weather clothing
