Kilkee cliff walk and scenic drive

The official Kilkee cliff walk is a 3.5 Km out and back path which starts at the Diamond Rock Café (ample parking) and heads south to Dunlicky Road and back. Less trafficked than the Cliffs of Moher, not quite so high but non-the-less spectacular, are the cliffs along the Clare coastline near Kilkee.  Access is free and there are ample seats along the way for those that need a break from the (at times) steep ascents. The Kilkee cliff walk is well worth the effort though, the views along the Atlantic coast are stunning.

More than just the Kilkee Cliff Walk

The Kilkee Cliffs however do not stop at the end of the Kilkee cliff walk at Dunlicky Road. Follow the road further south for approximately 7Km past fantastic views of the Clare coast. Hear the sound of the Atlantic waves pounding the rocks beneath you as you take your time to ramble along some parts of this coastline, breathing in the natural beauty of your surroundings. This drive is peppered with dramatic sea stacks just off the coast and you will not be short of photograph opportunities here.

More accessible than the Cliffs of Moher (a quiet road runs right along the side of them) these cliffs offer a chance for those with limited mobility or those who might otherwise have issues with the Cliffs of Moher to enjoy coastal scenery at it’s best. Being on the west coast of County Clare, the drive along the Kilkee Cliffs affords a great opportunity to view this spectacular coastline at sunset, when the light is as its best. Access to the Kilkee Cliffs and the Kilkee cliff walk is free of charge.

To the north of the town of Kilkee, there is also a shorter scenic walk (1.6Km) around George’s Head beside the Kilkee Golf Club which also affords wonderful views over Kilkee to the cliffs beyond.
