Bunratty Castle and Folk Park

A fantastic day out for all the family, you can spend a whole day in Bunratty Castle Folk Park and still not have seen everything that there is to offer. Ramble through old traditional dwellings, all recreated and furnished as they would have been when people were living and working in the County Clare countryside.

History at Bunratty Castle

The 19th century village street, takes you back in time. The buildings are taken from different parts of the country from around that time and there are actors and musicians around to make your experience even more entertaining and realistic. There are many buildings to explore on the 26 acre site surrounding Bunratty Castle representing the different social standings of the occupants. Buildings to view range from poor one room dwelling houses to rural farm houses to the Georgian Bunratty House with its beautiful walled garden.

Animals at Bunratty Castle

Keep an eye out for lots of native animals that are to be found around the grounds of Bunratty Castle which also includes Pa’s Pet Farm where visitors have the chance to get up close to some of the animals on the grounds. On your travels you might meet Maeve and Saoirse, the resident wolfhounds.

The interactive Fairy Trail is perfect for kids of all ages. Solve clues in the booklet to follow the trail through the park, searching for fairies as you go.

Then of course there is Bunratty Castle itself. At the edge of the Folk Park and home to the legendary banquet nights, where you can feast on a four course meal while being entertained in style, the castle is also well worth a visit during daylight hours. Stop and have a chat with the curator in the main hall – he has lots of wonderful insights into the history of this impressive building and is always happy to enlighten those that show an interest.
