Caherconnell Fort and Sheep Dogs

The Burren region of County Clare is steeped in ancient history, and Caherconnell Fort is playing a major part in helping us unearth and understand its fascinating past.  Expert guides at Caherconnell fort, which is also a field school for archeology, will bring the history of this exceptionally well preserved fort and the  surrounding region to life. The fort and visitors centre, which incorporates an audio-visual presentation and a graphic display area, is owned and run by the Davoren family who have been living in the area for generations.

Sheep Dog demonstrations at Caherconnell Fort

Excavations at the fort have shown that sheep farming has been a long standing tradition in the area and it is still carried out today on the site. Visitors can take in sheep dog demonstrations while visiting the fort, watching these amazingly intelligent dogs working from a covered viewing area. A visit to Caherconnell is a unique experience, which can be completed with a visit to the Mountain Haven Café and a browse around the on-site gift shop.
