Killary Sheep Farm

Located on the banks of Killary Harbour, one of Ireland’s 3 glacial fjords, Killary Sheep Farm is a working farm with over 200 sheep roaming freely in the surrounding Connemara landscape. The farm is open to the public all year round (weather permitting) and tours include a guided walk around the farm,  sheep dog demonstrations and demonstrations on the traditional art of turf cutting in the bog. The walks begin at 3pm or by prior arrangement. From July to September, visitors are also treated to sheep shearing demonstrations. Shearing on the farm is still done by hand in the traditional manner.

Guided Walks at Killary Sheep Farm

The tours include guided walks on the banks of Killary Fjord with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The walks start at 3pm Tues-Sunday or by appointment.

Sheep Dog demonstrations

At Killary Sheep Farm, because of the mountainous terrain, the farmers rely heavily on the skill of their dogs, who are trained on site. On the tour, you will be treated to an exhibition of these dogs and their trainers at work.

Turf Cutting

Turf is still cut at Killary Sheep Farm by hand, and the tour brings you up to the bog, where you can try your hand at cutting some bog using the traditional slean.
